We asked Darren Trice, CEO at Kaizen, who over recent years has helped many of our clients achieve impressive levels of growth, to give us 6 key things a business can easily do to successfully grow and stay ahead of their competition.
Here are his six suggestions:
- Adopt a growth mindset - A growth mindset encourages learning, innovation, and resilience in all areas of your business. This means challenges will be viewed as opportunities for development rather than as obstacles. Encourage your employees to think creatively and experiment with new ideas. By adopting a growth mindset your business can become more agile and better prepared for opportunities in the marketplace.
- Be Proactive - When you are proactive rather than reactive you give yourself the opportunity to anticipate and plan for growth. Diversification, entering new markets, or adopting new technologies before they become widespread could all help you take advantage of opportunities for growth.
- Stay informed - To effectively grow your business you need to know what’s happening in your industry and area of operation. Are there any new trends or is there some emerging technology that could change the way you operate/work. By carrying out desk research, attending industry conferences and networking you can gain early insights into changes that may be happening.
- Invest in innovation and new technology - Technology is a major driver of growth in nearly every industry. To stay competitive and grow, you need to be willing to consider investing in new technologies. For example, this could mean upgrading your software or automating some of your processes with things like AI and robotics. You could use data analytics to better understand your customers and their behaviours. Advances in technology could help you reduce costs and improve customer experience.
- Communicate openly and effectively with stakeholders - Lack of information on what is happening in your business can be unsettling for your employees and customers. So, the key is to clearly and consistently communicate what is actually happening and what you are going to be doing. Make sure that everyone in your business understands the reasons for any change or developments, the benefits these bring, and how they will be implemented and encourage feedback on these. Clear and open communication builds trust and helps employees to remain on target with your business’s goals.
- Monitor and measure progress - To be sure that any attempts at growth are successful it’s important to monitor your progress and measure the results from your starting point. This can be revenue growth, sales growth, cost reduction or any other important performance criteria. You can start by setting clear objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) so that you can track the effectiveness of your growth strategies. You need to regularly review and adjust your approach based on the feedback and the data you collect. As it becomes clear whether or not you are achieving your growth objectives, you can fine-tune your strategy so you achieve better results over time.
